Can BioWare offer enough to win back lost fans?
If you’ve read any of my previous posts regarding this game then you will know that I’m a massive fan. Sadly even I have become disillusioned with BioWare’s approach to Star Wars: The Old Republic. They remained silent on their upcoming updates and struggled with community communication. However, all this appears to have changed at E3. A whole road map was offered detailing upcoming content over the next few months and a newly restructured community team. All of which has left me feeling incredibly excited for SWTOR’s future.
The future’s bright
After a bleak few months it appears that the tide has finally turned for BioWare and SWTOR. Several key changes are set to hit the game including a new Operation, Warzone, companion, and even a whole new planet. Fans have been screaming out for more end game content and the developers are finally delivering it. The new Nightmare mode Operations should also keep the hardcore raiders happy with brand mechanics and a tougher difficulty level. There’s no way that players will get bored quickly with all this new content.
Hello I’m HK-51
A brand new companion character is heading to SWTOR in the shape of the assassination droid HK-51. This is an upgraded version of the legendary HK-47 droid. This character will come complete with a brand new quest chain and backstory to explore. Fans have been asking for new companions for a while and giving us the most legendary of all Star Wars droids is definitely a step in the right direction.
Next stop Makeb
In the next few months a brand new high level planet will be introduced the game, designed to truly test end game players. Apparently it is a strictly level 50 world and only players who have truly mastered their class will be able to survive on its surface. The planet also opens up a brand new quest chain to keep players busy and according to BioWare it won’t be the simple click this and go kill this style of quests. New mechanics will be in place on the planet making quests interesting and fun to complete.
Augments for all
Patch 1.3 adds the augment table to the game. This allows players to add an augment slot to any piece of gear they own from green level items all the way up to purple. This opens up a whole new level of customization to the game – yet another thing that fans have been crying out for. Any piece of gear is now viable at end game – including social items – meaning that players can now look however they want while still remaining competitive.
Which crew skill will you take?
There have been a lot of disgruntled players when it comes to crew skills in SWTOR. Many still believe that Biochem is the only useful skill at end game due to the reusable consumables that the skill offers. The addition of augment kits is designed to try and level the playing field by offering other professions useful end game items that they can sell. BioWare has mentioned that they plan on tweaking crew skills further over the next few months to try and fix any issues that remain, whether they will be successful is yet to be seen.
Is this the turning point for The Old Republic? Is BioWare offering enough to keep you subscribed for the next six months? Leave your thoughts below.
