Eidos Montreal has developed a new engine specifically for PC, PS4, and Xbox One that will “form the cornerstone for all Deus Ex Universe projects” at the studio, the company announced today.
According to a post from Sacha Ramtohul, community manager at Eidos, the Dawn Engine is “based on a heavily modified version of IO Interactive’s Glacier 2 engine.” The Glacier 2 engine powered 2012’s Hitman: Absolution, as well as 2010’s Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days and will be the engine behind the upcoming sixth Hitman installment.
The above image is a screenshot “taken directly from the Dawn Engine,” to give you an idea of its capabilities (and, also, the fantastic aesthetic of Deus Ex Universe, supposing that’s what it’s from).
Deus Ex Universe is the umbrella term for the “fictional world and the rich lore” of all upcoming Deus Ex games and side-projects. A new entry is known to be in development, but no details have yet to emerge.
