As promised, Red Barrels today revealed additional details about Outlast’s first DLC, titled “Whistleblower.”

Whistleblower servers as a direct prequel to Outlast. Players will assume the role of the unnamed whistleblower who gave Outlast protagonist Miles Upshur the anonymous tip to visit Mount Massive. As the whistleblower, players will witness the downfall of the asylum firsthand, exploring its halls “minutes before the slaughter” and then experiencing the outbreak itself.

The DLC will add new environments and new characters to complement the whistleblower’s original storyline, the end of which marks only the beginning of things for Miles Upshur in Outlast proper.

No release date or window has been given for the DLC, which developer Red Barrels teased earlier this week.

Outlast is currently available for Windows PC. A PlayStation 4 version is expected to launch early 2014.
