Tekken 7’s first new character is confirmed to be the Saudi Arabian brawler proposed this past summer, game director Katsuhiro Harada announced on Twitter just before the turn of the new year.
Named Shaheen, the character first turned up on Tekken’s Facebook page August 2014, where Harada shared concept art for the then potential addition to the Tekken roster and stated that his inclusion would depend on feedback from Middle Eastern fans and gamers. By the looks of it, the final design seems to be largely unchanged from what Harada pitched five months ago.
And according to Harada’s tweet, Shaheen is only the beginning of new blood Tekken 7 will boast. “We’ve more new characters,” he closed the Tweet with.
Tekken 7 is set to arrive in Japanese arcades this coming March. A stateside release has yet to be revealed.
