Everyone else that was intending to propose marriage to their girlfriend and/or boyfriend this year is officially going to have to work a little harder now. That’s because the “Proposal of the Year” award might just go to this charming young lad, who enlisted the help of You Don’t Know Jack developer Jellyvision Games to sweep his special lady friend off her feet.
Known only as “The Ria” to his Tumblr followers, the award-winner in question recently took to his blog and recounted the entire adventure, which all started with him issuing a plea for help to Jellyvision’s Twitter account.
Rather than pop the question himself, The Ria asked Jellyvision Games if they would be willing to make him a special episode of You Don’t Know Jack, with iconic host Cookie Masterson popping the question on his behalf. After a few days, Jellyvision’s marketing director pitched the idea to the team, and got the ball rolling on the project.
From here on out, I’ll let The Ria let you the rest of the story?fair warning, it’s a tear-jerker:
I told Kara that I had gotten into a special beta for YDKJ, and that they wanted video reactions to the new episodes, that they were really working hard on new writing, even punchier humor, etc. Blah blah blah, something about hooks, lines, and sinkers?she had no idea.
So I set stuff up, and had her play.
When the inevitable ?Kara Richter, will you marry John Zekind? question came up, she sat there, apoplectic. ?What? What? SERIOUSLY?! WHAT??
And she hit the ?Yes.? Answer.
And cackled madly at the ?I never met any couples who met at a steampunk renaissance faire, so I give you guys a 50/50 shot.?
And, there?s that. I gots me a fiance. 😀
And just when it looks like there’s nothing good to say about video games anymore, a story like this reminds you that the right person can put the format towards an extremely positive accomplishment. Congrats to the young couple, and many happy returns.
