The second installment of the Resident Evil: Revelations developer diaries explores how crucial viruses are to the series.

“We created Zombie-like creatures, as well as the ‘Ooze,’ which are frightening but believable because they originate from something we see in action in our everyday lives [viruses],” director Kazuhisa Inoue says in the video (embedded below). “That’s why viruses and infection have been such an important and terrifying staple of the series.”

Interface designer Akiko Hashimoto and programmer Go Ozawa also touch upon “viruses” as a theme in the Resident Evil series.

Resident Evil: Revelations infects PC, PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii U May 21 in North America, May 23 in Japan and Australia, and May 24 in Europe.
