Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex – First Assault Online, a free-to-play multiplayer title based on the popular manga and anime, has released a new gameplay trailer narrated by Motoko Kusanagi’s longtime voice actor Mary Elizabeth McGlynn.
First Assault, previously announced and shown under the title Ghost in the Shell Online, is a tactical, team-based shooter from publisher by Nexon America and developer Neople, best known as the makers of MMORPG Dungeon Fighter Online.
The fictional team known as Section 9, well known to Ghost in the Shell fans, are shown assaulting their way past hordes of what look like terrorist foes, no doubt of the cybernetic sort. In an interesting choice of music—being that the anime is known for its score by legendary composer Yoko Kanno—the trailer plays Imagine Dragons’ “Radioactive” while body parts go flying and Major Kusanagi executes enemies from behind invisible camouflage.
In addition to the previously revealed cybernetic character customization, which outfits characters with “specialized body augmentations, weapon attachments and enhanced abilities,” First Assault will apparently introduce a new feature called “SkillSync” that allows players to share cyber-abilities with nearby allies to create potent combos.
The trailer also mentions that Nexon will be hosting a closed beta test in order to stress test the games’ servers from October 1st through 4th. Fans can apply for entry into the beta on the official website and will also get a chance at unlocking an exclusive in-game weapon skin if chosen.
First Assault will launch in 2016 for PC.
