Listings for Overwatch on Amazon, Best Buy, and GameStop have all been updated to show the game releasing on May 23rd, the day before its previously announced launch date.
Just because players may be able to get their hands on Blizzard’s upcoming team-based shooter a day early from select retailers, that doesn’t mean they’ll be duking it out any sooner. A disclaimer of service has been posted to the game’s listing on Amazon, showing that the servers will still be turned on at the originally scheduled time:
“Release date announcement: Overwatch will now be released one day early, on May 23rd, 2016. Servers go live on May 24th, 2016.”
For those not in the loop, Overwatch is 100 percent online, so having the game before the servers are live won’t accomplish too much. However, this should allow players who purchase the physical copy to preload the game data prior to launch. That way they can join in on the fun the instant servers go live—no need to wait at the store until midnight, then drive back.
