Like Hitchcock and Stan Lee before him, auteur Hideo Kojima makes a cameo in his latest work, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

GameSpot video producer Edmond Tran posted his discovery on Twitter, which shows a recruitable Mother Base volunteer named ?Hideo? who resembles Kojima down to the hip prescription lenses. The character speaks Japanese and is apparently great with a wrench.

Kojima?s most obvious insertion into his own work first occurred during the Psycho Mantis fight in Metal Gear Solid. Kojima appeared again in Peace Walker and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots before finally getting a fully rendered model of himself as an informant in last year’s Ground Zeroes.

According to Tran, Hideo appears in The Phantom Pain only if players can access a Ground Zeroes save file that includes the completed side-mission wherein Snake rescues the Kojima-looking informant. This carry-over is one of the earliest confirmed perks of transferring a Ground Zeroes save file onto a Phantom Pain playthrough.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is out now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, and PC.
