Super Mario Maker

Add a little Mario to your PC or phone with Nintendo’s new Super Mario Maker–themed wallpaper maker.

Like the Wii U game, the tool lets users place blocks to effectively build their own custom level, complete with a selection of different visual styles and a variety of level choices. Unfortunately, the levels aren’t actually playable and players are restricted to a small fraction of the total number of blocks in the full game, but hey, Nintendo can’t just release the full version of one of its best-selling games for free.

The site is entirely in Japanese, but the interface is mostly picture-based and easy enough for non-speakers to follow. Select whether you’re building a PC or mobile level, pick the appropriate resolution or screen size, and you’re good to go. (Pro tip for those who haven’t played the Wii U version: The little robot icon at the bottom means “save,” so click there once you’re done building your level.)

Head on over to the Mario Maker website to build a wallpaper for yourself.
