To celebrate the addition of DirectX 12 support, Studio Wildcard has announced that ARK: Survival Evolved will be free to play this weekend.
From now, until Sunday, August 30 at 1:00 p.m. PT, all Steam users will be able to download and play ARK for free. Throughout this free weekend there will be hundreds of new Official Servers opening featuring a one-time-only Extinction Event called Meteor Impact. During one of these events, players can find Strange Artifacts that can contain a steam code which can be redeemed for 50 percent off ARK: Survival Evolved, or in some cases, a free copy of the game. However, players should be careful, because if they die before redeeming the code, another player can steal it.
“The event will end with a gigantic meteor that comes crashing into the ARK on these servers specifically, destroying them at the end of Monday,” the developer added. “Therefore, we recommend only playing on them if you are just trying the game out! We will be uploading and posting the save data from these servers later, for anyone to download who wishes to continue playing their character in singleplayer or re-hosting their data on their own Unofficial Server.”
ARK: Survival Evolved is available now on PC via Steam Early Access.
