A 2D, UbiArt?powered Prince of Persia is in the works, if French gaming outlet Portail du Jeu Video?s sources are to be believed.

According to the website?s report, the game is in development at Ubisoft Montpellier. Similar to Rayman Legends, the titular Prince?s body is divided up into several independently animated parts that allow for a dynamic, diverse range of animation and postures. Portail du Jeu Video?s report also indicates that the game will be 2.5D, with 3D character models.

UbiArt Framework is the engine behind the upcoming JRPG-inspired downloadable title Child of Light, too.

While on hiatus, Ubisoft has gone on record stating that Prince of Persia would return when Ubisoft thought it ready. ?Again, it?s cooking,? Ubisoft Europe head Alain Corre told Eurogamer June of last year. ?Something is cooking!?

?It will happen when we feel it is ready, when the creators have brought something interesting,? Corre added.
