Popular hand-drawn fighting game Skullgirls is finally headed to the PlayStation Vita as Skullgirls 2nd Encore.
Originally scheduled to release last summer, 2nd Encore is the “ultimate” edition of Skullgirls, packing all five DLC characters, a fully voiced story mode, a full Platinum Trophy set, and all new Challenges, Trials, and a Survival Mode. It’s also supported through PSTV, so a second player can grab a DualShock 3 or 4 controller and jump into multiplayer.
Skullgirls 2nd Encore supports cross-buy, so buying the PS Vita version will get you the PS4 version for free (and vice versa). Players who already own the PS4 version will be able to download the Vita version from the PS Vita store for free starting on Tuesday, April 5th. Additionally, a PS4 theme and avatars will go on sale “soon.”
The entire game is scheduled to get a facelift, with not one but nine patches across various regions and versions arriving after the release of the Vita version. These patches introduce multiplayer lobbies to the game, and will be released simultaneously “so as not to fragment the online community.”
These lobbies allow for a new feature called All Play, in which eight players enter a lobby simultaneously. While matches are still 1-versus-1, all eight players pair up to fight simultaneously. New matches can then be drawn from the same pool of eight players as soon as a match is finished, leading to faster matchmaking overall.
Skullgirls 2nd Encore launches on the PS Vita on April 5th, with the new themes, avatars, and patches scheduled to arrive soon afterwards.
