Sony Computer Entertainment has sold their Sony Online Entertainment division to investment management firm Columbus Nova, SOE president John Smedley revealed today on reddit.
Now named Daybreak Game Company, the studio formerly known as SOE “will operate as an independent game development studio” now capable of developing for multiple platforms, including PlayStation, Xbox, mobile, and more.
“So what exactly does this mean for you?” Smedley wrote in a post on the H1Z1 subreddit. “It will be business as usual and all SOE games will continue on their current path of development and operation. In fact, we expect to have even more resources available to us as a result of this acquisition. It also means new exciting developments for our existing IP and games as we can now fully embrace the multi-platform world we are living in.”
Or, as Smedley point it more succinctly on Twitter: “can’t wait to make Xbox One games!”
Most likely this means EverQuest Next and PlanetSide 2 and H1Z1 will now find themselves on Xbox One in addition to PC and PS4.
