The Darkness

Spec Ops: The Line writer Walt Williams announced Friday on Twitter that he’s left 2K Games?and triple-A game development altogether?in order to “try something new.” Williams emphasized that he’ll still be working in games, but “in the background.”

Williams, a nine-year veteran at 2K, counts several high-profile narratives to his credit, including as a writer on The Darkness II and as a story editor on BioShock 2. His last two games at 2K to release will be Evolve and Civilization: Beyond Earth, though he clarified on Twitter that he was “one of many” writers on the former project.

Along with fellow Spec Ops: The Line writers Richard Pearsey and Georg Struck, Williams earned high praise for the third-person military shooter’s commentary on stale, conventional narratives in the genre.
