THE BUZZ: When Syndicate was released last week it came with a special message to anyone looking to pirate the game. Starbreeze Studios, the creator of the game left an .nfo file with a message of  “1) Insert disc 2) Play ;).” An .nfo file is usually inserted into pirated games to give users instructions on how to install said game, along with the team’s logo that ripped it. Along with the playful instructions came a request to anyone looking for employment. The message reads, “Are you bored with watching from the sidelines? Ready to make the switch?” then proceeds to list the necessary skills and instructions on applying for a job at Starbreeze. The last part of the message is a plea from the developer to potential pirates to actually purchase the game if they have not yet done so.

EGM’s TAKE: With every publisher in the industry pulling their hair out, ostracizing fans, and doing whatever it takes to come off as greedy business men in the name of thwarting pirates, it took a veteran developer like Starbreeze Studios to come up with an interesting way to appeal to pirates. We wouldn’t be shocked someone is hired in the near future based off this .nfo file.
