Tom Clancy's The Division

A recent Tom Clancy’s The Division livestream revealed an avalanche of information on the game’s inbound 1.1 update with a focus on the new Incursion missions.

Incursions are proposed as the hardest challenges in the game and the first mission, titled “Falcons Lost,” tasks players with combatting the final remnants of the Last Man Battalion faction. After its defeat at the end of the main campaign, the LMB has retreated to a water treatment facility where Division agents must finish them off.

The developers place a lot of emphasis on the difficulty of this new mission, and so will we: It’s difficult. The mission can be played on either Hard or Challenging difficulties, similar to a selection of missions from the main game. One feature that makes these tasks so formidable is that they do not support mid-mission checkpoints. If your team wipes, you’re done.

Specifics on the mission’s content were scarce in the stream for the sake of spoilers, but a couple details made it out to the public. One semi-boss in the Incursion is a giant APC tank which the developers confirm will require more strategy than just excessively shooting to take it down. The mission also features an enemy that attacks with a drone, no longer guaranteeing a stable target for Agents to repeatedly pop.

Incursions offer rewards worthy of their challenge, with better rewards handed out for the harder difficulties. The new mission can be played as many times as players wish, but playing for the first time after each weekly reset offers slightly better loot than usual.

One particular reward offered by this mission type is the new gear sets, high-level armor pieces that, when equipped with their affiliated pieces, give players immensely powerful talents. The new gear sets are named Path of the Nomad, Tactician’s Authority, Sentries Call and Strikers Battle, and each focus on Dark Zone perks, support, precision, and assault respectively. Not all gear is rewarded exclusively in Incursions, and some, like Path of the Nomad, can only be obtained through the Dark Zone.

Also announce during the livestream was a launch date for the 1.1 update: April 12th.
