Everybody’s hoping to see their old favorites on the roster for Street Fighter V, but there’s always room for a couple of fresh faces—and according to brand director Matt Dahlgren, we’ll be seeing three more completely original characters in Capcom’s latest.
Dahlgren shared the news during this year’s GameStop Expo in Las Vegas. Street Fighter V will have 16 characters at launch. Eight of them are the returning classics you’d expect to see, like Ryu and Chun-Li. Another four are returning characters, but ones that haven’t been in a game for a while, such as R. Mika.
The final four are new and completely original. We’ve already had some hands-on time with Necalli (pictured above), but the other three are a mystery for now.
In addition to the main 16, Capcom plans to add more characters in later as DLC.
“The roster discussion is probably the most intense one internally before the game comes out,” Dahlgren said. “The end result is really going to be a roster that’s unlike Street Fighter IV. It’s got its own unique flavor to it. And if your character didn’t make it in now, we are going to be revealing post-launch characters.”
Street Fighter V arrives for PlayStation 4 and PC next March. If you’re placing a pre-order, your choice of retailer can net you different costumes for your favorite characters.
