For Honor, Ubisoft’s upcoming hack ‘n’ slash action title, was developed for the “core” gaming audience rather than striving for a mass market appealing, according to new statements from the publisher.

In a recent earnings call, Ubisoft CFO Alain Martinez referred the upcoming project as “more of a core game, less mass market.” For Honor‘s unique combat design is based on the careful balancing of attack and defense, which could give it a steeper learning curve than other pick-up-and-play action titles. Martinez’s statements may indicate that was an intentional decision.

For Honor is listed in Ubisoft’s latest quarterly report under the 2016-2017 title release schedule, which means the game is expected to launch around this time next year at the latest. Other information on the report reveals the development of the newly confirmed Watch_Dogs 2 as well as a previously unannounced “AAA IP”, both expected to launch in the upcoming fiscal year.

For Honor is expected to launch on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
