Hi-Rez Studios has announced the Summer of Tribes tournament, where over $30,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded to the best players in a series of Tribes: Ascend tournaments.
Kicking off tomorrow and running until August, the Summer of Tribes tournament series will be broadcast live over the internet, where anybody can watch as players take their shot at showing off their skills. Hi-Rez Studios is working with a number of partners for the support and streaming of the tournament, including North American Star League (NASL), Electronic Sports League (ESL), Cyber Sports Network (CSN), European Game Series (EGS), Curse Networks and FPS General.
“Given that we just released Tribes: Ascend mid April, we’re pleased with how quickly the e-Sports community is growing,” Hi-Rez Studios COO Todd Harris said in the announcement of the Summer of Tribes tournament. “Our team believes that Tribes can be a premier spectator event and we’re thrilled to have partners who share this vision and support the community with great broadcast content as well as prizing.”
Finals for the first event in the Summer of Tribes tournament will run tomorrow (May 12th) on cyber-sports.net. While Hi-Rez Studios is looking to use TwitchTV for the streaming of key tournament events, the next update for Tribes:Ascend will bring integrated live viewing of featured games.
