Mass Effect

While the 18% of the FemShep-playing portion of the Mass Effect consumer base already knows the truth, we now have it as Gospel: Commander Shepard was always meant to be a woman.

Okay, fine?maybe that?s not exactly right. According to Jonathan Cooper, the lead animator for the first two Mass Effect games, ?Shepard was always planned to be both male & female after Jade Empire?s pre-set characters.?

However, as part of his other tweets that accompanied that one this morning, Cooper showed off the very first animation test that were ever done for the character?and they were all the female version of Shepard.

?Ten years ago this month, my very first animi test for Mass Effect. Yup, Commander Shepard was originally a woman,? Cooper wrote, attached to the following image.

?And another one. A parametric incline blend based on checking ground normals. Some games still don?t do this,? he continued for a second animated gif.

So, now you know: when Commander Shepard took her very first steps into a brave new world of BioWare RPGs, it was indeed ?her? taking them. Suck it, MaleShep players.
