THE BUZZ: For baseball fans there are few things more elusive playing a full 162 game season. Baseball games are long, and going through each game and moving onto the playoffs before the following year’s version is out is near impossible, unless one shows the dedication to the sport that professionals get paid for. The PS Vita’s ability to access cloud saves from the Playstation 3 is a boon for Sony and its upcoming MLB 12 The Show. Players that own both PS3 and PS Vita versions of MLB 12 The Show will have the ability to take their season progress on the road with cross platform cloud saving.
Ramone Russel, a designer for the vaunted baseball series, explained to CNN saying, “You save that file up into a Cloud. Pick up your PlayStation Vita. Take it on the road. Download [the save] from the Cloud, and you keep going. And it works vice versa.” Russel also revealed that the console version will come with no less than 70 new features, while the new handheld will boast 65 new features, including being able to touch the back panel to throw to a base.
EGM’s TAKE: Gamers that like baseball are a niche market that has gone through a lot over the years. A feature like this for the Vita and Playstation 3 has been on their wish lists for years, but the technology just wasn’t there. With cloud saving finally becoming a reality for both major consoles, it’s nice to see Sony get this type of accessibility onto its new portable system. Hopefully this means more time to play through long seasons.
