In the next Ninja Gaiden installment, “Z” is for zombies. Team Ninja teased the reveal of a new console game just before the Tokyo Game Show, and now we know what the big surprise is called.

As part of a point development project with Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune, the franchise is going in a survival horror/action direction with the newly announced Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z.

Shown in the trailer below, the game doesn’t star usual series protagonist Ryu Hayabusa, but ninja who fell by his sword.

Now, that ninja has been resurrected, and will apparently cut and chop his way through hundreds and hundreds zombies (thousands, even!) to get his revenge. Cited as a “console” title, we assume that it’ll be available on PS3 and Xbox 360, with the likely possibility of a Nintendo Wii U version.
