Skate 2 servers shutting down at worst possible moment

EA has announced that it will shut down Skate 2‘s servers in less than a month—but that’s not even the worst part. No, the worst part is that the publisher made the announcement immediately after Microsoft revealed the game was joining the Xbox backward compatibility lineup.

Seriously, the timing is the worst it could possibly be. As of today, players on Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One can revisit the game on their newer consoles for the first time. On December 10th, the servers will go offline, meaning only the single-player portion of the game will be accessible.

The server shutdown will of course apply to the PlayStation version of the game as well, but it’s less of a blow there as the game doesn’t run on PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 consoles.

Still, if you love the Skate series, it’s not like you’ll be entirely without options. Skate 3‘s online servers are still up, and EA hasn’t announced any plans to shut them down. The publisher is also working on a new entry in the franchise, though we haven’t got much beyond some mysterious teases so far.
